BLOG TOUR REVIEW: Black Dawn by Mallory McCarthy

13 jun. 2017

¡Hola!

“The end of an Empire. The rise of a Queen.”

Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life that is until two mysterious, and dare I say handsome soldiers show up at her apartment doorstep and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Coming from the magical and ravaged world of Kiero, Emory is brought back not realizing that both men are darkly woven in her past. Discovering she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line Emory is thrown into Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne. With both lives clashing Emory uncovers hidden secrets from her past, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.

Some things are better left in the shadows.

First of all... let's take a minute to admire that beautiful cover.

Okay, now let's talk about the book.

I have to start telling you that I enjoyed it more than expected. I completely love fantasy and I like stories in which there are different points of view because I can understand more of what's going on but in Black Dawn I got a little confused. It didn't start badly for me, we get right into the action, but with alternate pov's scenes things were not so good at the beginning. It was a little bit confusing and felt like things were cut off abruptly. Nevertheless, once you once you dive into the story the pages flow. At the end I wanted more...

Some situations and characters were kind of frustrating but that didn't bother me too much because I was intriged about what would happen next and if we would know more about the world where the story develops. Which is good. The book has a really good concept that was wasted. It was original and fun and, yeah, it may have have some stereotypical stuff ...but it was an enjoyable book. And what about the romance, Lorena? (Yep, there's also some of love in the story)... Well, I'm not pretty sure how i feel about it yet so actually I can say too much about it.

I really think that Black Dawn is a good start. It's the first book of the author and it might not be perfect or the best book ever written but it has potential and you probably should give a chance if love triangles, heroines that adapt quickly to things and multiple pov's don't bother you. Oh! and if you like X-men (as much as I do) probably you also are going to like the hidden academy, best known as Black Dawn Rebellion ;)
